The Shack book series - fall '08

  • Aug 13, 2008

It's Coming . . . September 14!

Have you read The Shack? It's been on USA Today's top-selling book list for almost half a year, and now tops the New York Times Bestseller list. Pick up a copy at the Vineyard on Sunday mornings for less than the price at local retailers.

This is a different sort of book. In Vineyard North's past spiritual growth campaigns (a fall tradition), we've taught through books in which each chapter was a lesson in spiritual growth. The Shack isn't that kind of book. It's a piece of theological fiction that unfolds in a story that is eliciting passionate responses from readers around the world. The Shack brings up issues of the heart that touch people at deep levels.

I haven't met anyone who has agreed with every twist and turn in this story, but most everyone agrees that the book brings up deep issues that people want to talk about, such as: Are you absolutely sure you know exactly what God is like? Could he really be fond of me? Does God know and care about my Great Sorrow? Why do horrible things happen to innocent people? Why is judging people and even God such a trap for us all? What will heaven be like? How can we grow old with friends like Willie, Mac, and Nan?

Each Sunday this fall, our pastors will be teaching from a New Testament passage that addresses one of the questions raised in The Shack.

We're pretty sure that the book will stir your heart with intrigue over God's character, gratitude for God's grace, a hunger for intimacy, contentment with mystery, and a desire to live in deep relationship with others.

Pick up a copy of The Shack today and join us this fall.
